Yverdon-les-Bains, located at the southern end of Lake Neuchâtel, is the second largest city in the canton of Vaud after Lausanne. This lakeside town in French-speaking Switzerland is also an important tourist center and a well-known spa resort. Inhabited since prehistoric times, the Menhirs of Clendy dating back to the 3rd millennium BC bear witness to this period. In ancient times Yverdon-les-Bains was an ancient Roman military center, of which the remains of the castrum are visible today, but the most famous historic building is its medieval castle (Château d’Yverdon). The Yverdon-les-Bains Christmas market is the most important event that takes place in the city during Christmas.

YVERDON-LES-BAINS CHRISTMAS MARKET

The tradition of the Christmas market in Yverdon-les-Bains is a very recent thing, in fact the first Christmas market in Yverdon-les-Bains took place for the first time in 1998. The market takes place around the traditional and majestic Christmas tree Christmas.

1) Yverdon-les-Bains Christmas Market (Marché de Noël à Yverdon-les-Bains). The Market usually takes place in the Place Pestalozzi, in the Caves du Château (the cellars of the Castle) and in the Place de l’Ancienne Poste. Around 40 wooden merchants’ chalets are scattered around the square offering Christmas decorations, candles, gastronomy, toys, wood carvings, etc. In the cellars of the Castle of Yverdon there are instead the stalls of the artisans who create objects in ceramic, glass, wood and iron. The cellars of the Castle will host typical products and local specialties, then there will be a local craft market. There will also be an ice rink and various entertainment, such as concerts, music, children’s stories and the distribution of sweets by Santa Claus.
