Wolfenbüttel Christmas Market

Small town in Lower Saxony, located between Magdeburg and Hanover, a few km south of Braunschweig, along the Oker river valley.

The city was, between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, the residence of the Dukes of Brunswick (Braunschweig) who enriched it with beautiful buildings, including an imposing Renaissance-Baroque castle, the city has a beautiful historic center with many old wooden houses and some valuable public buildings.

Wolfenbüttel holds one of Germany’s most important historical libraries, the Bibliotheca Augusta (Herzog-August-Bibliothek) founded in the 16th century.

WOLFENBÜTTEL CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Wolfenbüttel Christmas Market (Wolfenbütteler Weihnachtsmarkt). The Christmas market of this town in Lower Saxony has been held for over 400 years in the Stadtmarkt, the market square. The market chalets are beautifully decked out and decorated, forming a beautiful Christmas village with local produce, decorations and toys. You will find fairy tale characters such as those of Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, or the Christmas elves, the Christmas program includes fairy tale readings and animations, lots of games and entertainment for children, an Advent calendar.

2) Craft market (Adventsmarkt in der Kommisse). On weekends in December you will also find a nice craft market which takes place in the Kommisse, an old mill, which later became a point of sale for food products and subsequently an old grammar school. In this market it is possible to buy decorations for the home and garden, small gifts and pretty accessories.

3) Christmas Market at the Castle (Weihnachtsmarkt im Schloss Wolfenbüttel). Upscale craft market in Wolfenbüttel Castle where professional artists and craftsmen are present. Among the things displayed in this market you will find: glass objects, eyewear, jewellery, Chinese ceramics, felt products, clothing, hats, bags, leather objects, pearls, gold and silver jewellery, wooden objects, baskets, wood, dolls and plush toys, flowers and dried flower arrangements, candles, decorations for the Christmas tree.
