Wiener Neustadt is an important city in Lower Austria which is located about 50 km south of Vienna. The city was founded between the end of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th century as a new fortified city to defend the eastern border with Hungary.
Wiener Neustadt had its period of greatest splendor in the 15th century when it was elected as his residence by Emperor Frederick III of Habsburg and remained so under the reign of his son Maximilian I of Habsburg, whose tomb is located in the Gothic chapel of San Giorgio (15th century), inside the 12th century Ducal Castle, which is today one of the main tourist attractions of the city together with the late Romanesque cathedral (Dom).
WIENER NEUSTADT CHRISTMAS MARKET
1) Wiener Neustadt Christmas Market (Zauber im Advent Wiener Neustadt). The Christmas Market is usually set in the main square of the city the Hauptplatz, around the Marian Column. The market displays Christmas decorations, handicrafts, toys, ceramics, wood sculptures, Christmas trees, gift items, wax objects, toys, baked and pastry specialties.
