Croatia is a young nation where along the coast the Italian and Venetian influences are clearly visible in the buildings of the cities and in the culture. While in the interior the Hapsburg influence is more pronounced in the characters of the cities.

BEAUTIFUL ANCIENT CITIES ALONG THE COAST

Among the things to visit in Istria are the Pula Arena, the Euphrasian Basilica in Parenzo (Poreč), the archipelago of the Brijuni islands, the Cape Promontore (Kamenjak), the many towns of the coast and of the interior Rovinj (Rovigno) above all. Along the Dalmatian coast you can see the hundreds of islands with the wonderful sea and then the historical cities of Zadar (Zara), Sibenik (Sebenico), Trogir (Traù), Split (Spalato), Dubrovnik (Ragusa of Dalmatia).

IDYLIC NATURAL PARKS

The most important and the most visited among the natural attractions of Croatia is the famous Plitvice Lakes National Park, located in the interior of Dalmatia. Other natural attractions declared national parks are the Krka waterfalls (Krka), the Kornati islands, the island of Méleda (Mljet), the archipelago of the Brijuni islands, and the mountainous areas of Paklenica, Velebit and Mount Rinjak.

Among the cities of the interior of Croatia, the capital Zagreb and the Baroque city of Varaždin, located near the borders with Slovenia and Hungary, are definitely worth visiting.

Among the things to visit in Croatia there are obviously the sites that Unesco has inscribed in the list of world heritage sites. In Croatian World Heritage Sites there are historical sites such as the Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč (1997) and the historical complex of Split with the Diocletian’s Palace (1979). Whole historical centers like that of the historical city of Trogir (1997) or like the splendid old city of Ragusa of Dalmatia (Dubrovnik) (1979). Religious buildings such as the Cathedral of St. James in Sibenik (2000). The beautiful Plitvice Lakes National Park (1979) is also a UNESCO site. Another UNESCO site is the plain of Cittavecchia (Stari Grad) and its agricultural cultural landscape on the island of Lèsina (Hvar) famous for the cultivation of grapes and olives (2008).
