Trier Christmas Market

Trier (Trier), an important historical city of the country, located near the border with Luxembourg, was the Roman Augusta Treverorum, founded in the first century BC. C. became the capital of Gallia Belgica and then one of the capitals of the Western Roman Empire. In medieval times the city was one of the electric cities of the Holy Roman Empire.

The city houses the most grandiose monument of Roman Germany, the Porta Nigra, but there are many other Roman monuments (the Amphitheater, the Barbara Baths, the Imperial Baths, the Basilica of Constantine, the Porta Nigra, the Roman Bridge, the Igel Mausoleum) and notable medieval ones (St. Peter’s Cathedral (Domkirche St. Peter) and the Church of Our Lady (Liebfrauenkirche)), all included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Trier Christmas Market (Trierer Weihnachtsmarkt). The market usually takes place in the medieval Hauptmarkt and in front of the imposing cathedral of Trier, 95 wooden chalets imbue the oldest German city, with the famous Porta Nigra, with a Christmas atmosphere. The market is full of Christmas decorations, wooden toys, candles, decorated ceramics, grilled sausages, typical sweets, “Reibekuchen” (potato pancakes), “Gluehwein” (hot wine), hot tea. Puppet shows, orchestras and choirs are organized for children.
