The state of Bahia is the second most visited state in Brazil by tourists. This is due to the wealth of Bahia tourist attractions. A combination of historical, cultural and natural references that make it one of the most complete destinations in Brazil. The city of Salvador, the ancient capital of colonial Brazil, is the main attraction. Its wonderful historic center is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the main tourist attractions of Bahia.
A LONG COAST FULL OF BEACHES
The Bahia region attracts tourists from all over the world thanks to the artistic beauties of its colonial cities, to the kilometers of pristine coast, to the suggestive natural landscapes of the interior, such as those of the Chapada Diamantina, to the culture generated by the crossing of European and African elements which is reflected in popular festivals (Carnival, Capoeira), religion (Candomblé), art and gastronomy.
The state of Bahia has the longest coast between the states of Brazil. Along its coasts there are famous holiday resorts such as Praia do Forte, Morro de São Paulo, Ilhéus, Itacaré, Olivença and Porto Seguro.
Chapada Diamantina is one of the most complete tourist destinations in Brazil. An ecotourism paradise, there are mainly natural beauties, such as waterfalls, tabular mountains, caves, and marshy areas similar to the Pantanal.
Bahia’s nature is protected thanks to the establishment of 7 national parks and 3 state parks. Among the national parks we also find a marine park that of the Abrolhos (Parque Nacional Marinho dos Abrolhos), a small archipelago off the coast of Bahia.
The other national parks are the already mentioned Chapada Diamantina National Park. Then there are Descobrimento National Park, Grande Sertão Veredas National Park, Monte Pascoal National Park. While to finish the Nascentes do Rio Parnaíba National Park, Pau Brasil National Park. The three state parks are the parks of the Serra do Conduru, Morro do Chapéu and Sete Passagens.
Two sites in the state of Bahia are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site: the historic center of the city of Salvador and the Mata Atlântica Reserves on the Costa do Descobrimento. These nature reserves are located in the states of Bahia and Espírito Santo.
