The island of Ios is characterized by a temperate Mediterranean climate, it is the typical climate of the islands of Greece characterized by hot and very dry summers and mild and rainy winters.
Annual rainfall is scarce – the annual average is around 370 mm – and is concentrated in the winter months between November and March. While in the months from June to September it practically never rains.
A short spring characterized by moderate temperatures is followed by a long and hot summer, mitigated in the afternoon by the sea breeze and the breath of the Meltemi, a wind of northern origin typical of the Greek islands that blows constantly during the summer. The island of Ios boasts over 300 sunny days a year.
The average maximum summer temperatures vary between 28 ° C in August and 26 ° C in June and September, in winter the average maximum temperatures vary between 17 ° C and 15 ° C. The average minimum temperatures vary between 22 ° C in the summer months and 10 ° C and 12 ° C in the winter months.
The sea water temperature remains above 22 ° C from June to October, reaching the maximum temperature of 25 ° C in August.
WHEN TO GO TO IOS
To visit the island of Ios the months from April to October are excellent, for the sea life those from June to September are preferable.
