The climate of Guimarães: when to go to Guimaraes

The city of Guimarães has a type of climate mixed between the temperate oceanic climate and the Mediterranean one in which four well-defined seasons are distinguished. The city has cold and very rainy winters. The intermediate seasons, i.e. autumn and spring, are mild in terms of temperatures, but rather rainy. Summer is the driest and hottest season of the year, although short rains can also occur in the summer months.

The maximum annual average temperatures vary between 28 ° C in August and 13 ° C in January, while the average minimum temperatures vary between 15 ° C in July and 4 ° C in January. The coldest month is January. The hottest month is August, rarely however the summer temperatures are very high. The city has an average annual temperature of 15 ° C.

The annual rainfall that falls in the city of Guimarães is around 1,450 mm. During the year the rainiest months are those that go from October to April, while the central months of summer are the driest of the year, in particular the months of July and August. The winter months of December, January and February are the rainiest months of the year. Snow is a very rare event in the city.
