The city of Arles benefits from a Mediterranean climate favored by a long hot and dry summer period with mild temperatures throughout the year. In winter, however, temperatures can sometimes drop even several degrees below zero. This is caused by the cold air that is channeled from the north of France along the Rhone valley.
The Arles winters can be quite cold due to the mistral. This is a violent and cold wind, which however contributes to making the landscape of Arles its characteristic brightness. The average minimum temperatures are 2.1 ° C in January, which is the coldest month, while temperatures reach 19 ° C in July and August. While the average maximum temperatures vary between 11/10 ° C in December and January and 30 ° C in July.
The rainiest months are the autumn ones, that is, those of September, October and November. The driest months are June, March and July. The rains are Mediterranean in nature but are never abundant, even in the rainiest months. The annual average rainfall in Arles is around 636 mm. The number of rainy days is around 60 days per year.
