Straubing Christmas Market

The city of Straubing is located in Bavaria, between Regensburg and Passau. Straubing, the former residence of the Dukes of Bavaria, has interesting Gothic architecture in its historic centre, including the cathedral (Basilika St. Jakob), the Romanesque church of St. Peter, and the Carmelite monastery (Karmelitenkirche Hl.). The visitor to the city should not miss a visit to the Gäubodenmuseum, which houses the Römerschatz, which are famous golden masks from the Roman era. The city is known in Germany for hosting, around mid-August, the Gäubodenvolksfest, a Bavarian beer festival second only to the Munich Oktoberfest, which attracts over a million visitors every year. The Straubing Christmas Market is the town’s most important event in the run-up to Christmas.

STRAUBING CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Christmas Market (Straubinger Christkindlmarkt). The market is held in the Theresienplatz. Local artisans display their products, ranging from Christmas decorations, nativity figures, candles and other gift ideas. There are many gastronomic specialties on sale, from frankfurters with toasted almonds to the famous mulled wine (Glühwein).

There are many activities dedicated to children during Straubing’s Christmas, one of these is the fairytale forest, here there are over 100 festively lit Christmas trees, in this place children can prepare sweets, play, see the puppets and have fun world. Another attraction is the street of cribs scattered in over 20 churches and chapels of the city.
