Sibiu Christmas Market

Sibiu, is an important historical city of Romania, located in the center of the country, in the Transylvania region, of whose principality it was the capital in the 18th century. Probably of Roman origin, Sibiu became important as a commercial center from the 14th century, and was inhabited by a majority of German speakers and culture until the Second World War, the German name of the city being Hermannstadt.

The city today is divided into the upper city (Oraşul de sus) and lower city (Oraşul de jos), the upper city is the historical and artistic heart of Sibiu. The city has one of the best preserved historic centers in Romania, worthy of note are the three connected squares (Piaţă Mare, Piaţă Mică and Huet) overlooked by wonderful Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture. Among the most beautiful buildings are the 14th-century Lutheran church of Santa Maria, the 15th-century Old Town Hall (Altenberger Haus), and the 18th-century Brukenthal Palace.

1) Sibiu Christmas Market (Targul de Craciun din Sibiu). The one in Sibiu is a unique market in Romania, it takes place in the Piaţă Mare square in the beautiful historic center of this city, which since the Middle Ages has been inhabited by a population of German language and culture, and it is to this tradition that the market recalls.

The event brings together over 60 producers from all over Romania, visitors will find handicrafts, gift ideas, sweets, and typical local foods. Among other attractions, the skating rink, the little train and many shows for children.
