Roros (Røros) is a small Norwegian mining town located about 400 km north of Oslo, and 150 km southeast of Trondheim, near the Swedish border.

Made up mostly of old wooden houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, Røros has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1980.

The village has a long tradition of trade, arts and crafts and is an ideal setting for an open-air Christmas market drawing on old and new traditions.

ROROS CHRISTMAS MARKET

Roros Christmas Market (Julemarked på Røros). The market is usually beautifully set in the heart of this old Norwegian mining town, with snow covering the old wooden houses of the village, creating a typically Christmas atmosphere. On the occasion of the market, the streets of Røros are full of stalls displaying local handicrafts, Christmas decorations, wooden objects, typical Norwegian foods, while some artisans present traditional activities.

How to get:

Røros is easily accessible by train, car and plane. Røros Airport can be reached via convenient flights of just 50 minutes from Oslo-Gardermoen. By car it takes 5 hours from Oslo and 2 hours from Trondheim. Buses connect Røros with Oslo in 6 hours and with Trondheim in 3 hours. The train is another popular means and takes 5 hours from Oslo (including a stop in Hamar) and 2.5 hours from Trondheim.
