Prague Christmas Markets

This post is also available in: Italiano Português Español

The Christmas Market (Vánoční trhy) in Prague is usually formed by two main markets that take place in the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, the other two smaller markets are located in Vinohrady (Vánoční trhy Náměstí Míru) and Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky). All four markets are within a short distance of each other.

The Prague Christmas markets consist of wooden stalls selling Czech handicrafts, hot food (sausages and local specialties) and hot drinks, such as mulled wine (svařené víno or svařák). Items for sale range from glassware, wooden toys, scented candles, handmade jewelry, ceramic mugs, hats and scarves, puppets and Christmas trees.

In the Old Town Square as well as the market is rebuilt the Nativity with animals, a manger and with the characters depicting Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus and the Three Kings. In the center of the Old Town Square is finally a huge Christmas tree full of lights. As completion of the Christmas events  are then organized choirs of typical local and international singing.
