Osnabrück is an ancient city in Lower Saxony, located between Dortmund and Bremen, it developed in the Middle Ages (VIII century) as a bishop’s residence and seat of an important market, Charlemagne founded one of the oldest gymnasiums in Europe, the Carolinum, whose foundation dates back to the 9th century. In the 12th century the city became a member of the Hanseatic League and developed considerably.

Among the most beautiful buildings in the city we find the town hall (Osnabrücker Rathaus), the ancient cathedral of San Pietro (Dom St. Peter) founded in the 11th century, and the Carolinum, the ancient gymnasium. Parts of the city wall with some towers are still visible, including the Bucksturm. A few kilometers north of Osnabrück, the Museum und Park Kalkriese is interesting, a museum dedicated to the battle of Teutoburg, which took place here in 9 AD, in which the Germanic tribes led by Arminius defeated the Roman legions, stopping their advance in the German forest .
