Beautiful town in Saxony-Anhalt, located along the Saale river about 60 km south of Leipzig in an important wine region. The city has origins in the Middle Ages as a castle, in the 11th century it became a bishopric and was an important commercial center along the Via Regia.
The most interesting building in Naumburg is the cathedral (Naumburger Dom), built between the 13th and 15th centuries in Romanesque and Gothic styles. Other attractions are the town hall (Rathaus), the palace of the Duke of Saxe-Zeitz, the bishop’s castle (Schönburg), and the Gothic church of St. Wenceslas.
NAUMBURG AN DER SAALE CHRISTMAS MARKET
Naumburg Christmas Market (Naumburg Weihnachtsmarkt). The market takes place in the beautiful historic atmosphere of the square overlooked by the Gothic church of San Wenceslas (St. Wenzel), here are the stalls offering traditional German Christmas products, many of which presented by craftsmen, you will find many gift ideas and delicacies of German cuisine such as the famous “Stollen”. The city of Dresden is famous for being the original place of the typical German Christmas sweets, the “Stollen” (similar to panettone), but this supremacy seems to belong to Naumburg, in fact there is a document from 1329 which mentions for the first time of this Christmas cake and in which reference is made to Naumburg and the cake “Stollen”. During Christmas there is no shortage of attractions for children such as the Christmas circus, puppets, readings of fairy tales and nursery rhymes, etc.
On weekends (Saturday and Sunday) special markets are organized such as the Weihnachtliches in den Höfen; the Adventsgeschichten; the Gewölbe, Türme und Kapellen; and the Advent in den Weinbergen.
