Narbonne, a city of very ancient origins, was founded by the Romans, who called it Colonia Narbo Martius. Under the Roman Empire it soon became the capital of Gallia Narbonensis. Also in the Middle Ages the city was important, first as a Visigothic provincial capital, then it was part of the Emirate of Cordoba and finally, with the Christian reconquest, it was an autonomous county, but starting from the 14th century the city suffered a slow but constant decline . Among the most interesting buildings in the city: the Gothic cathedral, never completed, dating back to the 13th century, the Archbishop’s palace, and the remains of the Roman city. During the Christmas period, the Narbonne Christmas Market is the most popular and important event in this ancient city of Roman origin in Languedoc-Roussillon.

NARBONNE CHRISTMAS MARKET

Narbonne Christmas Market (Marché de Noël). The market takes place along the canal in the Promenade des Barques (Cours de la République) and in the Cour Mirabeau, and is made up of over 30 wooden houses, where you can find many traditional objects such as Christmas balls, crib figurines (santons), candles and also delicious Narbonne cuisine. Children’s Village (Village de Noël). A small Christmas village dedicated to children is recreated, with lots of entertainment just for them. There will be areas for baking bread, decorations, make-up, preparation of sweets and pastries. The Narbonne Christmas attractions included in the “Les féeries de Noël à Narbonne” event usually include the magical forest, the advent calendar, Santa Claus with his sleigh, an ice skating rink, the parade of cartoons and many animations on the streets of the historic centre.
