Located in southern Alsace, near the borders with Germany and Switzerland, and a few kilometers from Basel, Mulhouse is, by importance, the second largest city in Alsace, after Strasbourg. The city is home to two important museums, one dedicated to cars and the other dedicated to trains: the “Musée national de l’automobile” and the “Musée Français du Chemin de Fer”. The Mulhouse Christmas Market is the most important Advent event in this Alsace city. In the center of this Alsace city, a traditional Alsatian Christmas market is recreated during the Advent period. If you visit the city in this period in the heart of the historic center of Mulhouse, you will discover the particularity of this market: the Christmas fabric created every year to decorate the facades and pedestrian streets of the city and to provide a festive context for the Christmas market.
MULHOUSE CHRISTMAS MARKET
1) The Christmas Market (Les Etoffes de Noël) in Place de la Réunion and around the Temple of Saint-Etienne. The Mulhouse Christmas Market is usually held in the central Place de la Réunion, in front of the Temple of Saint-Étienne, the most important Protestant church in the city. The market displays a large selection of handicraft products, including the inevitable gastronomic stalls of local products, stalls with Christmas decorations and those with toys for children. There is no shortage of entertainment for children such as Christmas carousels and trains.
2) Mulhouse Textile Museum Christmas Market (Marché de Noël du Musée de l’Impression sur Etoffes). Every year during the Christmas period (between mid-November and the end of December) the famous Textile Museum displays a selection of objects from its collection in an exhibition dedicated to Christmas.
