The city of Montpellier is located in the south of France a short distance from the Mediterranean coast, the city rises in a hilly area along the river Lez. The center of the city is the place de la Comédie, the place where the Christmas market usually takes place. Montpellier originated in the Middle Ages as a merchant city, in the 12th century it became part of Aragon, to which it remained linked until 1349, when it was ceded to France. At the time of the Reformation the city was one of the Protestant centers of southern France. Montpellier, the capital of Languedoc-Roussillon, usually hosts the event called “Les Hinvernales” during Christmas. During the Christmas period, the Montpellier Christmas Market is the most popular and important event in the capital of Languedoc-Roussillon.

“Les Hinvernales” is an event completely dedicated to Christmas, where the Market is an important part of a series of events and shows that brighten up the days of Advent. Among the most interesting things you will find, in the Charles de Gaulle esplanade, a large tent, called “Le village des délices”, entirely dedicated to gastronomy with culinary proposals for every palate.

Montpellier Christmas Market (Marché de Noël). The Montpellier Christmas market is usually hosted on the place de la Comédie in the center of the city, where there are over 100 Camargue-style wooden houses, and on the Charles de Gaulle esplanade where there are another 60 Christmas stalls offering products from the local crafts and Christmas items. The gastronomic part of the event is very rich, with sweets, local products and wine, chocolates and sweets and the inevitable mulled wine. Montpellier also offers its visitors music and songs, animations, cribs (crèches), parades, and a large ice skating rink.
