City located along the Atlantic Ocean coast in the southwestern United States in a tropical climate area. Miami is the arrival point of most tourists who visit Florida and its tropical beaches.
The city stands at the mouth of the Miami River in Biscayne Bay and was only founded in the late 19th century. Thanks to its wide sandy beaches, since the beginning of the twentieth century, it has become above all a popular seaside resort. In the following decades the city has developed considerably to become today one of the most famous and popular climatic and seaside resorts in the world.
Miami is today above all a luxurious city with first-rate hotels and services. There are suggestive places such as Miamarina, where the yachts of the wealthy businessmen stop. You can visit Coral Gables and its shops on the Miracle Mile, or enjoy the special atmosphere that you breathe at the Venetian Pool or Coconut Groove.
A LIVELY CULTURAL LIFE
The cultural life of the city is also very lively. Among the museums are the Museum of Science, with Florida flora and fauna and a section dedicated to space flights. The Dade Country Museum has important collections of European art. The Seaquarium is very beautiful where sharks, geese, seals and dolphins are visible.
Four miles east of Miami, along a sandy strip between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, is Miami Beach, arguably Florida’s most popular beach resort.
The wild Everglades National Park, made up of swamps and marshes, is located just 60km southwest of Miami. Along the way to reach it you can visit the Serpentarium, a snake farm, and the Parrot Jungle, a park with parrots. To the south of the city begin the islands of the Florida Keys archipelago. A long expanse of sandy islands that end after a few hundred kilometers with the seaside resort of Key West.
HOW TO GET
The city is served by the Miami International Airport (Miami International Airport – MIA) which is connected with flights to the main cities of North America, the Caribbean, Europe and South America. The airport is located 11km north-west of the city.
