Mexico has a climate that varies considerably according to the altitude of the various areas of the country, the Mexican climate is in fact divided into four climatic areas, according to its height: Le tierras calientes, le tierras templadas, le tierras frias and the tierras heladas.
As regards the large extension of the country from north to south, the climate passes from the desert climate of the north to the tropical-equatorial one of the south. The Tropic of Cancer climatically divides Mexico, to the south of the Tropic are the areas subject to tropical climate , while to the north are those subject to temperate climate.
A BIG DIFFERENCE OF CLIMATES
Returning to the climatic division for height, the so-called tierras calientes are those areas of Mexico that are found at altitudes below 600 meters, in general, are areas with a tropical climate, high humidity with constant temperatures around 25 ° C and relatively high rainfall, with average annual precipitation values sometimes exceeding 1,500 mm, the areas in this climate are the Yucatan Peninsula and the plains of Chiapas and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
The tierras templadas are found at altitudes between 700 and 1,600 meters, temperatures are around 20 ° C, with discrete changes in temperature between day and night, especially in the summer months, the rains occur mainly in the summer months between June and September and reaching annual averages around 1,000 mm.
The tierras frias are found at altitudes between 1,600 and 2,800 meters, in this climatic zone is also the capital, Mexico City (2,420 meters high), the climate here is temperate, the rainy season is the summer between June and September, on average this area has values around 800 mm of rain per year.
Finally, the tierras heladas are the areas of Mexico at heights above 2,800 meters, here the climate is mountain type. In these areas glaciers and perennial snow are present at heights above 4,800 meters.
WHEN TO GO TO MEXICO
Due to the wide variety of climate Mexico can be visited at any time of year, each area has, however, his best season to visit. The coastal areas are hot and humid throughout the year, while the highlands have mild temperatures even in winter, where the dry season runs from November to April and this is the best time to visit the highlands of Mexico.
Along the tropical coasts of the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean the winter and spring months, between November and April are the best for a trip, while the summer months are the wettest and the risk of tropical cyclones is high, the most cyclones occurs in the months between August and October, although the cyclone season extends from June to November.
