Liège Christmas Market

Liège is an important city in Belgium, in Wallonia, the French-speaking part of the country. The city is crossed by the River Meuse and is located a short distance from the borders with Holland and Germany. Founded in the Middle Ages, Liège, thanks to its strategic position, was an important military stronghold during the following centuries. The historic center of the city, called Carré, deserves to be seen, there are the palace of the prince-bishops, a beautiful cathedral, the market square with the 17th century town hall, the beautiful flamboyant-Gothic style church of Saint- Jacques. The city is then dominated by the citadel, which is connected to the city center by a steep staircase called the “Montagne de Bueren”. The Liege Christmas Market is one of the oldest in Belgium and recreates in the heart of the city of Liege the classic atmosphere typical of Christmas full of magic and enchantment that characterize the true Christmas spirit.

1) Liège Christmas Market (Village de Noël de Liège). The Christmas market in the city of Liège is the largest in all of Belgium, and is made up of over 190 wooden chalets displaying Christmas gift ideas typical of Belgian Walloon crafts, as well as various Christmas decorations (Christmas balls, garlands, greeting cards, fireworks) and then there are the numerous and tasty typical products such as marzipan sweets, mulled wine, beer, chocolate, and gingerbread. The market is usually held in two squares of the city: Place St. Lambert and Place du Marché. In the Christmas Village of Liège there are usually 4 thematic houses: the Maison ardennaise, the Chalet de la Gruyère, the Chalet “Au pied des pistes” and the Maison du Pèket.
