Le Havre Christmas Market

Le Havre, a UNESCO World Heritage City is an important port in northern France, located at the mouth of the Seine. The city was founded in the early 16th century with the name of Franciscopolis, soon becoming a busy port for trade with the French colonies in America. The city was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War, rebuilt in a modern style, between 1945 and 1964, by a team of architects directed by Auguste Perret, this reconstruction has earned it the inscription in the world heritage of humanity since ‘UNESCO. The city is now home to an immense commercial and industrial port. Worth a visit is the André Malraux museum, famous for its collection of works by Impressionist artists – including Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Manet and Gauguin – and for a rich collection of works by Boudin and Raoul Dufy. The museum also houses various works by French, Italian and Flemish artists such as Vouet, Corot, Delacroix, Bronzino, Tiepolo, Terbrugghen and Luca Giordano. The Le Havre Christmas Market is the most important event of the Advent period.

CHRISTMAS IN LE HAVRE

Christmas events in Le Havre are usually gathered in the event called “Noël au Havre”, they include: a Ferris wheel, a Christmas village and Santa’s sleigh. Le Havre Christmas Market (Marché de Noël du Havre). The Le Havre market usually takes place in the city center, in the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, where around thirty wooden chalets with handicrafts and local products await visitors. Christmas in Le Havre is accompanied by games and special programs for children, musical entertainment, carriage or pony rides and street shows. Usually during Christmas the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville is dominated by a large Ferris wheel and numerous Christmas-themed exhibitions are organized in various places in the city. And who knows if Santa Claus will show up with his sleigh again this year…..
