Lausanne, the capital of the French-speaking canton of Vaud, overlooks the northern coast of Lake Geneva at about 500 meters above sea level. Lausanne’s most interesting building is its Protestant cathedral, the Gothic-style structure dates back to the 13th century. Also near the cathedral is the Château Saint-Maire, built at the end of the 14th century and now the seat of the government of the canton of Vaud. The Lausanne Christmas market is the most important event that takes place in cities during Christmas.

LAUSANNE CHRISTMAS MARKET

Lausanne has many surprises for Christmas, the city offers interesting Christmas markets: Grand Marché Couvert – Place Saint François, Place Pepinet, Place de l’Europe, Place Centrale, Bel-Air Square, Esplanade of the Cathedral, Place de la Palud. There are usually many thematic markets, set up in as many places between the Cathedral and the Flon.

The roundup of Christmas markets usually brings together artists, craftsmen and a shortlist of producers who are more representative of the refined creativity that animates the capital of Vaud.

1) Lausanne Christmas Market (Grand Marché Couvert – Marché de Noël de Saint-François). The Christmas Market, with its 30 wooden chalets on Place Saint-François, invites you to discover a festive village in the heart of the city, in a magical atmosphere. In this market you will find numerous stalls offering all kinds of Christmas products, from decorations to typical Swiss Christmas sweets, to mulled wine, but also a lot of other good things.

2) Pépinet Creators and Artisans Market (Marché des Créateurs et des Artisans de Pépinet). In the Place Pépinet you will find artisans who will offer you their handcrafted products. Here, too, there will be numerous opportunities to taste Swiss Christmas delicacies.
