Landshut, the capital of Lower Bavaria, is an important historic city that rises along the banks of the Isar river between Munich, Regensburg and Passau (Passau). It was founded in the 13th century as a castle dominating a ford of the Isar river and soon became one of the most important cities in Bavaria, the period of maximum splendor occurred between the 14th and 15th centuries. The civil and religious buildings that still characterize Landshut today were built during this period.

The historic center is crossed by the Altstadt along which numerous prestigious buildings overlook, including the town hall (Rathaus) and the Residenz, while the two churches of Martinskirche (the cathedral with an imposing bell tower that rises to 131 meters) and Heiliggeistkirche are located at both ends of the street. The Neustadt is also very beautiful, overlooked by houses with beautiful Baroque facades. Among the buildings worthy of a visit, the one at the Trausnitz fortress is not to be missed.
