City located along the Rhine, in the final stretch of the Middle Rhine Valley area declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the city is rich in history, here in fact the Romans, in 9 BC. they built a fortified castle there, strategically located at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle. In the 9th century the city became the seat of a Frankish kingdom and then came under the control of the prince-electors.

Thanks to its strategic position, Koblenz today has numerous medieval and more recent fortifications, which occupy the hills surrounding the city. Imposing is also the Ehrenbreitstein fortress (Festung Ehrenbreitstein) rebuilt in the 19th century by the Prussians, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view over the city and the river. The historic center of Koblenz (Altstadt) is very beautiful with the Basilica of St. Kastor, a Romanesque-style building from the 13th century, and the residence-palace of the elector princes, and numerous ancient houses and palaces.

The castle of Stolzenfels (Schloss Stolzenfels) is located just south of the city, and is part of the many castles of the Rhine Valley, of older origin, it was renovated in the nineteenth century. The city is surrounded by an important wine area.

KOBLENZ CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Koblenz Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt Koblenz). Set in the beautiful historic center of Koblenz, the Christmas Market usually fills numerous squares of the city with its wooden stalls, you will find objects for all tastes including interesting pieces of local craftsmanship. The Gospel and choral concerts held in the inner courtyard of the town hall (Rathaus) are beautiful. During Christmas, romantic carriage rides are also organised, and a large life-size crib is set up, and for the little ones there is a Christmas pastry shop where they can learn the art of pastry-making and taste the Christmas sweets.
