Karlsruhe, located between Stuttgart and Mannheim, along the river Rhine, not far from the border with France. The origin of Karlsruhe dates back to the eighteenth century, when the Margrave Charles William of Baden-Durlach had his new residence (Karlsruher Schloss) built here, it became the official residence of the Dukes of Baden starting from the nineteenth century. The majestic building now houses the Badisches Landesmuseum, the historical museum of the city. The Karlsruhe Christmas Market and the Medieval Christmas Market in Durlach are two important events held in this city in Germany.

KARLSRUHE CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Christmas Market (Weihnachtsstadt Karlsruhe). Usually hosted in Friedrichsplatz, the Karlsruhe Christmas Market is dominated by a large 17-meter-high pyramid where mulled wine is served, the market’s wooden chalets offer objects in glass, leather, porcelain, terracotta, wood, candles, jewels , Christmas decorations, cribs and toys. Then there are usually the gastronomy counters with local products such as honey, spices and herbal teas. A large ice skating rink is usually set up in the Schlossplatz.

2) Medieval Christmas Market in Durlach (Mittelalterlicher Weihnachtsmarkt in Durlach). In this suburb of Karlsruhe, the former capital of the margraves of Baden-Durlach, a classic medieval Christmas market is usually held inside the Karlsburg fortress, where characters in medieval costume (acrobats, jugglers, musicians) entertain adults and children who visit this charming market.
