HUNGARY: DOCUMENTS

To visit Hungary, European citizens must have an Identity Card valid for expatriation or a Passport. Children and minors must have their own passport / identity card. Citizens of some countries must apply for a Visa.

Driving license: European or national driving license.

Car insurance: European insurance is valid for entry into Hungary with your car.

HUNGARY: HEALTH INSURANCE, TRAVEL INSURANCE, AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Hungarian public health care is quite good, in order to access treatment it is necessary to show the European Health Insurance Card. Medical and travel insurance is recommended. Health and travel insurance costs only a few tens of euros and allow for a more peaceful journey.

HUNGARY: MOBILE PHONES AND INTERNET

International dialing code for Hungary: 0036.

Hungary uses the GSM 900/1800 network, so no problem with European cell phones. International roaming agreements exist with most mobile phone companies.

Mobile telephone operators: T-Mobile, Telenor e Vodafone.

In Hungary there are many internet cafes or internet points where you can talk cheaply or send e-mails. Most hotels also have free wifi internet.

HUNGARY: POWER PLUGS AND ELECTRIC SOCKETS

The electric current is 230 volts, 50 Hz.

The Hungarian power plugs and sockets are the standard two-pin European-style sockets, i.e. in Hungary the C and F power plugs and sockets are the same used in Europe.

HUNGARY: CURRENCY AND BANKS

The official currency of Hungary is the Florin (Ft, HUF).

ATMs and currency exchange machines are available across the country.

The credit cards used most often are AMEX, Diners Club, EnRoute, Euro / Mastercard, JCB, VISA, they can be used to withdraw money from banks and ATMs and to pay in hotels, restaurants and shops.

ATMs in Post Office post offices (“Postamat”) offer a service in over 3,200 post offices across Hungary and provide cash services for cash withdrawals with credit cards.

Bank Opening Hours: Banks are open Monday to Friday from 8.00 to 16.00. Some banks are open on Saturdays, but all are closed on Sunday.
