Anguilla Island has a single small airport, Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA), located in the central-southern area of the island, south of the capital The Valley. This airport is connected by daily flights to several Caribbean islands including Puerto Rico (San Juan), Antigua, Saint Thomas and Saint-Martin / Sint Maarten.
HOW TO GET TO ANGUILLA FROM EUROPE
For those coming from Europe the best way to get to Anguilla is to fly to the nearby island of Saint-Martin / Sint Maarten. This island has an international airport and has frequent and excellent flights from the main European airports. Airlines with more frequent flights include Air France and KLM. The flight time between Europe and Saint-Martin / Sint Maarten varies between 10 and 12 hours excluding stops and plane changes.
HOW TO GET TO ANGUILLA FROM SAINT MARTIN
The island of Saint-Martin / Sint Maarten is well connected with Anguilla with boat services and small plane flights. From Saint-Martin / Sint Maarten airport to reach Anguilla there are three options:
1) Take a short 10-minute flight connecting Saint-Martin airport to Anguilla airport. Flights are operated by Winair through Anguilla Air Services
2) Take the ferry which, however, leaves from the town of Marigot (about 20/30 minutes by taxi from the airport, the taxi costs about $ 20), and connects Saint-Martin to Anguilla. Reservations are not required, ferries depart every 45 minutes, between 8.00 in the morning and 19.00 in the evening. The cost is around $ 15 per person per way to which $ 5 departure tax must be added.
3) And finally, the best and fastest solution, take the comfortable motorboat service that leaves near the airport, and which in 20/25 minutes crosses the narrow stretch of sea (about 10 km) that separates Saint-Martin / Sint Maarten from Anguilla. The main companies that provide this service are: Calypso Charters, Anguilla Ferry and Charter Services, Funtime, Gotcha.
If you choose the latter type of service, you can book it before leaving or upon arrival at the airport you will find staff who offer the service including transfer by minibus to the nearby departure pier of the motorboats. The cost of this service is around $ 65 (children under 12 pay half, those under 3 travel free).
