This beautiful German town in Lower Saxony, located a few km southeast of Hanover, is home to interesting and valuable historic buildings, including the cathedral and the ancient Benedictine abbey (Kirche St. Michael), buildings built in the Middle Ages, during the sacred Roman Empire, both declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Another notable place of interest is the historic Marktplatz overlooked by the town hall (Rathaus) and the Knochenhaueramtshaus, one of the best examples of timber-framed buildings in Germany.

HILDESHEIM CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Hildesheim Christmas Market (Hildesheimer Weihnachtsmarkt). The market, the main one in the city, usually takes place in the historic and suggestive market square (Marktplatz). The square and the old town center are festively decorated with stalls that transform Hildesheim into a Christmas town. The splendid setting of the historic market square, and the market in the square “An der Lilie” and the adjacent areas to the pedestrian zone are a show of lights and decorations. The city is decorated with Christmas lights and Christmas trees, the smell Gingerbread fills the streets of the city center and steaming mulled wine warms the visitors of Hildesheim during  the Advent season.
