Hallstatt is a charming town located along the south-western shores of the lake of the same name (Hallstattersee). The town of Hallstatt is located in the center of a very rich mining area, where salt was extracted since ancient times, thanks to which Hallstatt became an important commercial center since the Middle Ages. The Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut region of Austria has been declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
HALLSTATT CHRISTMAS MARKET
1) Hallstatt Christmas Market (Christkindlmarkt am Hallstätter Marktplatz). The market usually fills the small market square (Hallstätter Marktplatz) of this pretty Austrian village. A beautiful life-size three-dimensional nativity scene and a large illuminated Christmas tree are set up in the village.
Walking through the market in its many stalls you will find imaginative decorations for the Christmas tree and many handmade Christmas surprises including beautiful bags, jewellery, art prints and much more. Taste the mulled wine, hot tea and the delicious waffles (Waffeln) with cinnamon and sugar.
On market day there are usually musical entertainment shows, handicrafts, arts and crafts, imaginative handmade Christmas decorations, plus a beautiful winter wonderland, you will also find traditional delicacies such as spicy smoked fish caught straight from the lake, but also delicious Christmas cookies, mulled wine and punch.
