Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, is located in the Scotland Lowlands about 50 km to the west of Edinburgh. The city of Glasgow was founded in the Middle Ages as a bishopric, it became one of the most important ports of Great Britain, in particular for the trade to America. There are few remains of medieval Glasgow, the two most important buildings of this period are the Cathedral (St. Mungo’s Cathedral) of the thirteenth century and the Provand’s Lordship of the fifteenth century. Glasgow has one of the most important groups of buildings in Britain from the Victorian era (nineteenth century), it is also interesting the modern architecture of the city. The Christmas Market of Glasgow offers rustic cabins and colorful stalls and a selection of items for your gifts, crafts and cooking food from all over the world.

GLASGOW CHRISTMAS MARKETS

Usually end of November – December

The traditional Christmas Market in Glasgow (Glasgow Christmas Market) is held in the central square of the city, the St. Enoch Square and in George Square.

1) Christmas Market in St. Enoch Square (Glasgow Traditional Christmas Market) and in George Square (George Square hosts a traditional carousel, the iconic Big Wheel and a whole host of family focused street entertainment). The market of Glasgow is made up of about 100 colorful stalls offering a selection of gifts, handicrafts and food products. The market has both a gastronomic character with German specialties such as gingerbread, “Glühwein” (German mulled wine) and German sausages, and Christmas sweets such as roasted almonds and candies, but also has a handcrafted look with the sale of objects of amber and silver, toys, handmade crafts, lace and tin toys, scarves, jewelry, hats, bags, candles, etc..

During the Christmas holidays Glasgow will welcome visitors with a large ice skating rink (Glasgow on Ice), a large Ferris wheel and traditional carousel for the kids.
