The town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a renowned ski resort in the German Alps, is famous for the facades of the houses decorated with characteristic paintings. The town is located about 700 meters above sea level. In this wonderful alpine atmosphere, a nice Christmas market is organized during the Advent period. Originally they were two distinct cities, Partenkirchen originated during the Roman Empire when the inhabited center of Partanum arose there, while Garmisch arose in the Middle Ages around the 9th century. The two towns remained separate for several centuries and only during the Nazism were they united into a single administrative entity.
GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN CHRISTMAS MARKET
1) Garmisch Christmas Market (Christkindlmarkt im Garmisch). This market is held in the pedestrian zone of Garmisch, in the Richard-Strauss-Platz. During the market period there is also a rich program dedicated to children with songs, fairy tales and Santa Claus. The Garmisch brass band plays every day at 5 pm.
During Advent, the town of Garmisch is made enchanting by the scenario of perfumed and illuminated stalls of the Christmas market. Here you will find a selection of objects such as knitted wool hats, amber, tea and coffee, honey, jam. Children will appreciate the rides, as well as the oven for baking desserts. The culinary offer goes far beyond the usual selection of roasted almonds, chestnuts and “Glühwein” (spicy warmed wine). In fact, you can taste the typical German sausages (Bratwürsten), Swiss cheese fondue (Schweizer Käsefondue), winter soup (Wintersuppen), fruit dipped in chocolate, Schupfnudels, or a crepe. For those who want it will also be possible to take a romantic carriage ride through the center of Garmisch.
