Located on the eastern outskirts of Stuttgart, the city of Esslingen am Neckar, an ancient medieval merchant city, located along an important commercial communication route between Italy and Germany. Free Imperial City for over six centuries, spared from the devastation of the Second World War, today it retains its medieval appearance almost intact, made up of ancient wooden houses, fortifications, public buildings and churches. The Christmas Market in Esslingen is one of the most beautiful markets in southern Germany.
ESSLINGEN AM NECKAR CHRISTMAS MARKET
Esslingen Christmas Market and Medieval Market (Esslinger Mittelaltermarkt und Weihnachtsmarkt).
Esslingen hosts, usually during the four weeks before Christmas, a delightful Medieval Christmas Market, often listed as one of the most beautiful in southern Germany made up of over 200 stalls. Artisans (blacksmiths, glaziers, rope makers, dyers) dressed in historic medieval costumes will show and illustrate the local handicraft products. You will find events of all kinds: shows by street artists, jugglers, nightly torchlight processions, medieval music concerts, dances, jousts, games and entertainment for children. During Advent Esslingen offers events such as the torchlight procession to the castle, the medieval music concert in St. Paul’s Cathedral and also a rich cultural programme.
