Erfurt Christmas Market

Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia has kept a practically intact medieval old town, the two most famous buildings of the city are the Cathedral (Mariendom) and the church of St. Severus (Severikirche), which are located next to each other.

Other interesting buildings include the citadel of Petersberg, a fortress from the Baroque era, the old medieval bridge of Krämerbrücke, with a singular shape on which there are ancient wooden houses. The Augustinian monastery (Augustinerkloster) is also very beautiful, where Martin Luther lived for a few years.

Erfurt also has the oldest Synagogue (Alte Synagoge) in Europe, built in the 11th century and now home to the museum which houses the Erfurt Treasury. The city has a very old university founded at the end of the 14th century.

ERFURT CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Erfurt Christmas Market (Erfurter Weihnachtsmarkt). It is one of the largest and busiest Christmas markets in Germany, usually taking place around the Domplatz, Fischmarkt and Anger, and is made up of over 200 wooden stalls selling Thuringian handicrafts such as ceramics, fabrics and decorations christmas.

Erfurt for Christmas features a large, beautifully decorated Christmas tree, a nativity scene with large carved wooden figures, carousels, a Ferris wheel and a large Christmas pyramid.
