The small town of Durbuy, with only 11,000 inhabitants, is described in tourist brochures as the smallest city in the world. It was an important medieval commercial center and in the 14th century it was elevated to the status of city. Durbuy has some interesting monuments, the most famous of which are the old grain warehouse (Halle aux blés), the castle (château de Durbuy) with the Parc des topiaires, the 17th century Saint-Nicolas church, and a short distance from the town the area of the prehistoric megaliths of Wéris. This small but truly characteristic Walloon town is a little jewel made up of narrow cobbled streets, with characteristic houses and dominated by a beautiful 18th century castle.
DURBUY CHRISTMAS MARKET
1) Durbuy Christmas Market (Marché de Noël de Durbuy). The Christmas market usually takes place in the streets and squares throughout the small historic center of this small Belgian village, and in particular in the Place aux Foires and in the Parc Roi Baudouin. But the whole small town is festively decorated with lights and Christmas decorations. Another Christmas market is usually present every day around the ice rink.
