Chur Christmas Market

Chur, the capital of Graubünden, is located along the Upper Rhine valley in an excellent strategic position at the crossroads of some important trade communication routes. In Roman times, the city was the site of a fortified camp called Curia Raetorum. In the Middle Ages, Chur was first owned by the Ostrogoths and then by the Franks. Current Chur developed with the creation of the Holy Roman Empire, it only became part of Switzerland at the beginning of the 19th century. The ancient city is located in the eastern area of the town and is characterized by the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral of St. Luzius built between the XII and XIII century, in front of the cathedral is the Bishop’s Palace.

CHUR CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Christmas Market (Churer Weihnachtsmarkt). The Chur market usually takes place in the historic center of the Grisons capital, and is made up of over 130 stalls, which offer Advent wreaths and Christmas floral decorations, wooden toys, glass objects, candles, among the delicacies of local gastronomy you will be able to taste the Christmas cookies, the barley soup, the local sausages or the mulled wine. During Christmas  the historic center of Chur is  festively decorated with decorative lights and the shop windows compete to be more beautiful.

2) Chur Christmas Market (Churer Christkindlmarkt). Market in the historic center of Chur (Poststrasse, Alexanderplatz and Bahnhofstrasse) with handicrafts, traditional Christmas decorations and culinary delights, local specialties and hot drinks.
