The Canton of the Grisons (Graubünden) is located in the eastern part of the country and is the largest canton in Switzerland by surface area. Graubünden is bordered to the south and southeast by Italy, and to the north-east by Austria and Liechtenstein. To the north, the Grisons region is crossed by the Rhine, while to the south are the Inn and the chain of the Alps which rises above 4,000 meters with Piz Bernina (4,049 metres).
