Brno, located in Moravia, north of Vienna and Bratislava, in the south-central part of the Czech Republic, is the country’s second largest city. Founded in the Middle Ages as an important fortress, the city today has a beautiful historic center with interesting buildings such as the Spielberg Castle (Hrad Špilberk), the old town hall (Stará radnice) and the more recent cathedral (Katedrála svatého Petra a Pavla). In Brno there is also a masterpiece of modern architecture, the Villa Tugendhat (1930), the work of Mies van der Rohe and included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Brno Christmas Market is the most important event in the city during the Christmas period.

BRNO CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) The Brno Christmas market usually takes place in two distinct squares in the historic center – Freedom Square (náměstí Svobody) and Dominican Square (Dominikánském náměstí) –  connected by Christmas decorations and stalls.

2) Brno Christmas Market (Vánoce na Zelňáku). The wooden Christmas houses usually fill the Zelný trh square, the vegetable market square, in the historic center of the city. In a nice atmosphere you will find costumed vendors who will offer you traditional handicraft products and many local delicacies.

3) Christmas market (Vánoční trhy) of the Brno Exhibition Center (Brněnského výstaviště). The market is usually hosted within the Brno Fair District (Veletrhy Brno), where nearly 500 exhibitors showcase their wares. In this market you will find all kinds of objects produced by local artisans: leather, footwear, leather goods, glass, ceramics, porcelain, clothing, toys, items for children, musical instruments, jewellery, flowers, and culinary delicacies.
