BELGIUM DOCUMENTS

Travel Documents: For Europeans citizens of all ages a valid travel document for entry into Belgium include: Identity Card valid for foreign travel or a Passport. Even children and young people must have their own document. US and Canadian citizens need a valid passport. Citizens of other countries may need a visa.

Driving license: National driving license.

Car Insurance: The European car insurance is valid in Belgium.

BELGIUM HEALTH INSURANCE, TRAVEL INSURANCE, AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Health care: Healthcare in Belgium is a good level on European standards. European citizens are entitled to the benefits of public healthcare by presenting the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

BELGIUM MOBILE PHONES AND INTERNET

Telephones: Belgium Country Dialing Code 0032.

The Belgacom Phone Pass can be used with telephones, public telephones and mobile phones. Belgacom Phone Pass as well as other phone cards are available at post offices, railway stations, bookstores, newsstands, supermarkets, shops and Teleboutiques Belgacom.

Public telephones use either coins and phone cards. Public phones that have stickers with flags of different countries can be used to make international calls with the assistance of an operator.

Mobile Telephones: All GSM phones enabled for calls abroad can be used without problems. Roaming agreements exist with most international mobile phone companies. The coverage is excellent.

Mobile telephone operators: Proximus, Mobistar, Base.

Internet: Many cafes and other places offer the opportunity to access the Internet through Wi-Fi wireless with your laptop.

BELGIUM POWER PLUGS AND ELECTRIC SOCKETS

Electricity: In Belgium, the electric current has a voltage of 230 Volt 50 Hz.

Electrical plugs ands sockets: The power plugs and sockets used in Belgium are those of type C and E. Type C power plugs and sockets are like those used in Europe with two round plugs. Type E power plugs and sockets are the same as those used in France.

BELGIUM CURRENCY AND BANKS

Money and Banks: The official currency in Belgium is the Euro. Credit cards are widely accepted (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and Eurcard). ATM machines are available in all major cities.
