Bautzen is the historic capital of Upper Lusatia, a historic region of Germany, now part of Saxony, built on a bend in the Spree River. The city is an important cultural center of the Sorbs, a Slavic minority in the region, and is located close to the border with the Czech Republic, just 50 km east of Dresden.

Bautzen is a city of medieval origin and is still known today for its beautiful medieval and baroque architecture made up of walls, castles, towers, churches and ancient buildings. The main square of the historic centre, the Hauptmarkt, is very beautiful, overlooked by the 18th century town hall (Rathaus), the cathedral (Petridom) and various prestigious buildings.

Bautzen Christmas Market (Bautzener Wenzelsmarkt). One of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany awaits you in the beautiful old town of this Saxon town. Bautzen is the most important inhabited center of the Sorbian population of Slavic culture. In the market you will find typical products and foods of the Sorbian population, as well as the classic Christmas objects and gift ideas, and you can admire the men and women in their traditional costumes.
