Angers Christmas Market

Angers, is the main center of the Anjou (Anjou) region, a historical region of northern France, which today is part of the Maine et Loire (Maine-et-Loire) department of the Pays de la Loire (Pays de la Loire) region ). Angers is famous for possessing some masterpieces of the “tapisserie” art. The city was founded in Roman times, and in the Middle Ages it became the cradle of the Plantagenet dynasty that ruled England between the 12th and 15th centuries. Among the most important monuments are the castle (Château d’Angers) – with splendid Gothic tapestries narrating the Apocalypse according to Saint John -, the cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Maurice d’Angers) and the old St-Jean hospital (Hôpital Saint -Jean) dating back to the 12th century and which houses the ten “Chant du Monde” tapestries by Jean Lurçat executed between 1956 and 1966. During Christmas, the Christmas Market in Angers is one of the most important events in the city.

1) Angers Christmas Market (Marché de Noël d’Angers – Soleils d’Hiver). The market usually takes place in the Place du Ralliement and in Rue Lenepveu in the historic center of Angers. The market stalls offer wooden toys, gift items, Christmas decorations, typical local products, handicrafts, wafers, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts. Place du Pilori is usually entirely dedicated to artisans with the Pôle Art et Créateurs.

In the city of Angers, numerous events are organized alongside the market, including Christmas carols, shows and activities for children. In recent years, during the market period there were a small train and a large Ferris wheel, Santa Claus and the elves…. To the delight of those who love shopping, the shops in the historic center of the city will all be open.
