Albi Christmas Market

This post is also available in: Français Italiano Español

Albi, an ancient city founded by the Romans, is today an important commercial center located along the Tarn River. Albi is also the birthplace of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, a famous impressionist painter. In its historic center stands the majestic cathedral of Sainte-Cécile, built at the end of the 13th century and which is one of the largest brick buildings in the world. The red brick buildings are the main feature of the city. Another prestigious building in Albi is the Palais de la Berbie, the ancient palace of the archbishops of Albi, today the seat of the important museum dedicated to Toulouse-Lautrec. In 2010, Albi was included in the UNESCO list of world heritage sites: among the buildings highlighted by UNESCO are the Old Bridge (Pont-Vieux), the Saint-Salvi district with its church, the fortified cathedral of Sainte-Cécile, the Palace of the bishop de la Berbie, and the residential districts, which make the episcopal city of Albi a coherent and homogeneous set of monuments and districts that has remained largely unchanged over the centuries. The Albi Christmas Market is the most important event of the Christmas period in this historic city in the Midi-Pyrenees. But Christmas in Albi is not just the market, you will find games, music and shows to entice your stay. An ice skating rink is usually set up in Place Ste Cecile.
