Located in northern France, along the Seine River, Paris, in addition to being its capital, is the economic engine of France, producing about a quarter of France’s gross domestic product, and together with London it is the main economic hub of the European continent. Paris is also one of the most populated cities in Europe, its metropolitan area has a population of around 12 million.

Symbol of French culture, as far as tourism is concerned, the French capital is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. Its most famous monuments date back to various eras. There are masterpieces of Gothic architecture such as the cathedral of Notre-Dame (XII -14th century) and the Sainte-Chapelle (13th century), buildings from various periods such as the Louvre (13th-20th century), the Eiffel Tower (late 19th century), les Invalides (17th century), the Grand Palais (late 19th century), the Arc de Triomphe (early 19th century), the Sacré Coeur basilica of Montmartre (19th-20th century), the ultra-modern La Defense district (20th-21st century).

The museum offer of Paris is also very rich, always renewed and optimally valued, there are unique museums in the world such as the Louvre, probably the most important museum in the world, or the Orsay museum and the Orangerie museum, both dedicated to impressionist painting, or the brand new Museum du Quay Branly, dedicated to the art and culture of non-European continents, and the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimonie, dedicated to French architecture and artistic heritage.

To underline the cultural and artistic importance of Paris, the decision by UNESCO to include no less than four sites in the region of the French capital, Ile de France, in the list of world heritage sites: the banks of the Seine in the center of Paris , the palace and park of the Palace of Versailles, the medieval city of Provins, and the palace and park of Fontainebleau.
