The Galapagos Islands have a mild but dry climate, this is due to the influence of Peru cold ocean current that flows around the islands moderating temperatures and making the climate of the islands pleasant all year round.
The climate in the larger islands of the Galapagos archipelago change with increasing altitude. The temperature gradually decreases with altitude, while precipitation increases with increasing altitude due to the formation of moisture in clouds on the slopes of the mountains. The amount of rainfall varies greatly from one place to another of the islands.
The rains are scarce, especially in the coastal plains, where they fall in average between 350 mm and 400 mm of rain per year, while they are more frequent in the mountains, where in some areas they can reach and exceed 2.000 mm per year. The sea water of the Galapagos islands – despite the presence of the cold stream of Peru – never drops below 21 ° C and reaches 27 ° C in the month of March.
