Sarreguemines is a Lorraine town located along the Saar River and close to the border with Germany, of which it was part between 1871 and 1918. The town was founded in Roman times as a small border settlement. From the Middle Ages Sarreguemines was part of the Duchy of Lorraine and from 1766 of the Kingdom of France. Sarreguemines is famous for the production of decorated ceramic vases (faïence de Sarreguemines), a visit to the Museum of Ceramic Techniques (musée des Techniques Faïencières), the Museum of Ceramics (Musée de la Faïence) and the Jardin des Faienciers. During the Christmas period, the Sarreguemines Christmas Market is the busiest and most important event in the city.
SARREGUEMINES CHRISTMAS MARKET
Sarreguemines Christmas Market (Village de Noël). Christmas market which fills the Place du Marché with its 50 wooden chalets – in the center of this Lorraine town – and also extends onto the nearby rue de l’église, rue de Verdun and rue Sainte-Croix. The products presented by local artisans and traders are very beautiful and of high quality. You will find products from the region such as the famous Meisenthal Christmas balls, ceramic and porcelain objects, candles, jewels, and the famous “santons de Provence”, as regards gastronomic products you will be offered honey, spices, foie gras, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and waffles. Santa Claus this year will stay in his winter quarters in his beautiful house where the children will be able to meet him and with whom he will be photographed. The Christmas village will be animated by clowns and buffoons, musicians and street artists who will be present to cheer visitors during the weekends.
