Located about 80 km north-east of Nuremberg, Bayreuth is the capital of Oberfranken (Upper Franconia). Despite the heavy bombings of the Second World War, the city still retains some valuable Baroque buildings, such as the Baroque church of Spitalkirche, the New Castle (Neues Schloss Bayreuth), the residence of the Hermitage and the Opera building (Markgräfliche Opernhaus).

BAYREUTH CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Christmas market (Bayreuther Christkindlesmarkt) which takes place between Schulstraße and von-Römer-Straße. The market is made up of almost 50 stalls that present a variety of delicacies and gift ideas for all ages. During Advent, not only the stalls of the Christmas market but also the shops in the center are open.

During the Christmas holidays and in particular for the Advent period, the city of Bayreuth presents itself to the tourist festively decorated and illuminated with the classic festoons of lights. Shop windows compete to present their products in the windows in the most original way possible.

The Bayreuth Christmas program is rich and varied and guarantees attractions for young and old with musical and theatrical events, films and fairy tales, craft demonstrations, and finally, not to be missed, in the Old Castle, the winter village (Winterdorf). The market also hosts a beautiful nativity scene.
