Crossed by the Danube, Ingolstadt is located halfway between Nuremberg, Regensburg, Augsburg and Munich. The city was the seat of an independent duchy in the Middle Ages. Today the historic center of Ingolstadt is made up of numerous Gothic-style buildings, among which the most interesting are the Old Ducal Castle (Herzogskasten), the New Ducal Castle (Neue Schloss) and the Kreuztor, one of the gates of the city wall. Among the religious buildings, the Gothic St.-Moritz-Kirche, the Gnadenthal monastery and the baroque Asamkirche are worth mentioning.

INGOLSTADT CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Christmas Market (Ingolstädter Christkindlmarkt) in Theaterplatz. The Ingolstadt market is one of the oldest in Germany, the first evidence dates back to 1570. The market takes place in the Theaterplatz near the ducal castle. The market’s over 50 stands sell handicrafts, mulled wine, punch and lots of Christmas sweets. Among the Christmas attractions of this town, the Krippenweg is very famous, a walk that winds through the churches of Ingolstadt and allows you to visit the wonderful nativity scenes. For this Ingolstadt is also called the city of cribs (Krippenstadt) they are visible in 12 churches scattered throughout the city center.
