A former port of the Hanseatic League, the city of Stade is located along the Elbe River west of Hamburg. Stade’s heyday was the 13th to 17th centuries, during which time the town was Hamburg’s main rival as the region’s most important port.
The city today is full of historic buildings, the old port is very beautiful with the old houses that are reflected on the canal, among the most beautiful architectures those of the Lutheran church (St. Cosmae et Damiani), the town hall, the Swedish warehouses (Schwedenspeicher) and the Swedish armory (Zeughaus).
STADE CHRISTMAS MARKET
1) Stade Christmas Market (Stader Weihnachtsmarkt). Set up in the beautiful squares of Pferdemarkt and Fischmarkt, the Stade Christmas market is made up of more than 70 wooden chalets with artisans and merchants offering their products: gift items, Christmas decorations, handmade wooden toys, jewellery, local handicrafts, sweets, roasted chestnuts, gingerbread. Many events related to Advent with a large musical program and lots of entertainment for children.
The atmosphere of the historic old town of Stade dominates the Christmas market and adds a special touch to the Christmas setting of the market. Festively decorated stalls and stands invite visitors to taste delicious Christmas food and typical winter drinks. An extensive program with Santa Claus, the Swedish Saint Lucia Queen of Light, Christmas music, the sounds and songs of choirs and instrumental music, as well as Advent songs in the Church of St. Cosmae create in the Stade Christmas market a happy and carefree atmosphere.
