Reutlingen is a German town which is located about 40 km south of Stuttgart. The history of Reutlingen begins in the Middle Ages, to be precise in the 11th century, when a  medieval castle was built on the site of the current town. Later, in the 12th century, a small hamlet of houses arose around the castle which became a market place and then in the 16th century Reutlingen became a Free Imperial City. The most important building in Reutlingen is the Gothic Marienkirche, dating from the 13th-14th centuries.
