Augsburg Christmas Market

The city of Augsburg is the ancient Augusta Vindelicorum founded by the Romans in 15 AD. as the arrival point of the Via Claudia, it is today an important city in Bavaria, and after Trier it is the oldest city in Germany. In addition to the Roman era, Augsburg was also important during the Renaissance, so much so that it was known as the Florence of Germany. The Augusta Christmas Market is the most important event in the city in the period before Christmas.

CHRISTMAS MARKET IN AUGSBURG

1) Augusta Christmas Market (Augsburger Christkindlesmarkt) in Rathausplatz. The Augusta Christmas Market (Augsburger Christkindlesmarkt) is usually held in the central Rathausplatz, the square overlooked by the most interesting building in the city, the Rathaus, a beautiful Renaissance building that houses the Town Hall. In addition to the classic and ubiquitous stalls, the market is really beautiful for the atmosphere that reigns in this historic German city, on the occasion of the “Augsburger Engelsspiel”, the illuminated facade of the Town Hall becomes a large advent calendar. There is usually also the fairytale street (Augsburger Märchenstraße), in the area around the Christmas market  numerous motifs and scenes from famous fairy tales will be shown. A Christmas market dedicated to children (Kinderweihnachtsmarkt am Moritzplatz) is usually present in Moritz square.
